To be able to communicate your product's environmental and social impact and supply chain, several in-platform requirements must be completed. This article presents each requirement and explains in detail how to fulfill those.

Retraced offers two options of visualization. While QR codes are offline and can be attached onto your products directly (e.g. on the washing label, on the packaging), the webshop components are online and visible on the product details page. It is up to you which option(s) shall be implemented - it's either one or even both are possible.

1. Creating and managing your network

In order to digitize your products' journey, you first need to create your network by linking your company to its network partners that participate in the production of your products.

There are two options to do so: Linking to existing company profiles or creating new ones if your network partner does not have a profile in Retraced yet. Both options are documented in our help center.

After doing so, you need to decide if you would like to be fully or half transparent about your product's environmental and social impact and supply chain. While full transparency means disclosing the product journey including information about suppliers (e.g. supplier name, address, description, pictures) and their certificates, half transparency will give consumers limited information. In case, you opt for half transparency, make sure that the supplier profiles are customized according to your preferences.

2. Creating and managing your products

Most likely, you would like to create the digital passport for many/all products. Hence, we recommend bulk-importing your products by using our in-platform wizard. Note that mandatory product information includes the product code, name and type. While the remaining are optional. Nevertheless, for the passport, we suggest the following product information: Description, Images and Material composition.

It is possible to create products one-by-one. This option is suitable if only few products must be created.

In case, product information needs to be updated, you can do so by going into the product profile > clicking the pencil icon (for editing) or save time by updating products in bulk.

More information about Products can be found here.

3. Creating product maps

Once your products have been created, it is time to map their supply chains (=product maps). This is done manually.

For our traceability clients: In case, you have traced supply chains and product maps are not needed, those can also be used. More about it in the section below.

More information about Product Maps can be found here.

4. Linking products with their maps

Once products and product maps are created, you can easily link them by following this guide, which also explains how to link products with already traced supply chains.

5. Activating product stories

Only if products have been linked to their maps/traced supply chains, their product story (=product journey) can be activated. This is a necessary step as it makes the product journey visible to the consumer via the QR code or the Retraced widget in your webshop.

6. Claiming badges

Next to the supply chain information of your products, other sustainability efforts of your suppliers and material related product information such as product certificates can be translated into badges. This makes it more digestible for the consumers.

A series of badges can be claimed, such as Fair Working Conditions, by having actual legal proof that will be visible to the consumer as well. In total, there are 10 different badges which are either automatically triggered (depending on the approved and valid certificates and memberships of your suppliers and your own company) or can be manually claimed by your own company.

Specifically, when it comes to claiming badges that require a valid transaction certificate (such as the Sustainable Materials badge), make sure that the company holding the TC must be your own company mentioned as the buyer (not seller) in the certificate.

Also, important to note is the removal of badges once certificates expire. If a new certificate is available, you can simply renew the expired one and the matching badges will be brought back. Here, make sure that your badges are being recalculated once there is new proof!

7. Integrating your webshop

Depending on the webshop that you are using, you need to refer to the respective webshop integration guide - it is either Shopify or any other webshop. Additionally, we have prepared few guides that will help you during the integration - specifically related to our webshop components, their placement, size, speed and available languages.

The integration is done on your side, while the CORS whitelisting of your webshop domain is executed by Retraced. For this, please share your webshop's name and URL with us. Once the whitelisting is through, we will inform you.

If you do not see the components in your webshop, please refer to this troubleshooting guide. If you face overlay problems, this guide will help.

Good to know: To a certain extent, customizations of our webshop components are possible.
