Update products and components in bulk
Updated over a week ago

In the future, information about your products/components may change. Hence, you need to overwrite existing product/component information in the platform. This article explains how the rules are set up and highlights important remarks that you should take into account when updating product/component information.

What is our updating logic?

Whenever data is imported, our system checks via the product code if a record of it already exists. If that is the case, it looks at every column of the import file and uses the values that are in there to overwrite the current values of the products in retraced.

Let’s take a look at a simple example – if you want to update the names of a few products, you will select them in the product table, click on export, adjust only the name column in the excel file and upload it back to retraced.

You can also bulk remove information. To do that you need to have empty cells in the import file for all data points that you would like to remove. Once you import the new file, the old values in retraced will be deleted.

Warning: There are few exceptions to our updating logic and those are the main supplier/ seasons/ departments and brands field. When you import new data referring to these fields, it will not overwrite the current information but instead add the new to the current information. Therefore you can also not bulk remove on this field.

Step 1 - Pull an export of your products/components

First, access your products/components via the products tab in the left navigation bar. Then, (multi)-select the products/components that need to be updated. Lastly, click the enable export icon.

Step 2 - Adjust information in the export

In the export file, adjust all data points in the columns that you would like to update. Note that all data that is not supposed to be updated must be kept in the file too.

Tip: Always save your exported product excel, in case you would like to restore it in the future!

Step 3 - Import the adjusted file

Now, import the adjusted file by using our import wizard. For this, follow the step-by-step guide on how to create products/component in bulk.
