Adding Products to Product Backwards Tracing (NEW)

This article explains how to create a Style in Retraced so it can be used for product backward tracing — either before starting a tracing workflow or directly during order creation.

Updated this week

Before You Start

To trace a product backwards to its raw material origin, you first need to create your Output Product (Style) in the Products section.

You can create the Style you want to trace before creating orders — or create it directly during order tracing.

Remember:

Tracing currently supports Style-level products only. We’ll soon support Variants and SKUs in the tracing module.

Variants and SKUs can still be created for hierarchy purposes, but they cannot be traced individually

How to Create a Style for Tracing Before Creating an Order

Before starting a tracing workflow, your product must exist as a Style in Retraced.

There are two ways to create Styles:

Option A: Create a Style Manually

Create one Style at a time directly in the platform:

This option is ideal if:

  • You are working with a small number of products

  • You want to review and enrich product data individually

Option B: Create Styles in Bulk

Upload multiple Styles at once using the Import Wizard:

This option is recommended if:

  • You manage many products

  • You export data from ERP, PLM, or PIM systems

  • You want to set up your tracing foundation at scale

Creating a Style Directly During Order Tracing

If you forgot to create your Style beforehand — no worries. You can create a Style directly within the tracing workflow.

How it works:

  1. Start creating a new order.

  2. In Step 2 – Add order details, click Create new product.

  3. Enter the required Style information:

    • Style Name

    • Style Level

    • Style Type

    • Styles’ Code (ID Type + ID Code)

  4. Click Create Style.

The newly created Style will automatically be linked to your order and can immediately be used for tracing.

What Product Information Is Required for Tracing?

To proceed with backward tracing, your Style must include at least:

  • Basic Style information (Name, Level, Type)

  • A unique product identifier (Style’s Code)

The following is recommended but not mandatory:

  • Material Composition

  • Bill of Materials (BOM)

  • Additional product attributes

Eco Footprint data are not required to initiate tracing.
