How to Archive and Unarchive Components

Understanding the Archiving Logic

Archiving helps you keep your workspace clean by removing outdated or inactive assets from the active view — without permanently deleting them.

In Retraced, components follow a hierarchy:

Component (Parent) → Variant → SKU (Children)

The archiving behavior depends on the level you select:

When Archiving

  • You can archive any level: Component, Variant, or SKU.

  • If you archive a parent level (e.g., a Component or Variant): All of its child assets are automatically archived.

  • If you archive a child asset (e.g., a SKU): Only that specific asset is archived.

When Unarchiving

  • A child asset cannot be restored independently if its parent is still archived.

  • To restore a Variant or SKU, you must first unarchive its parent.

  • When restoring a parent Component, you can choose whether to also restore its Variants and SKUs.

For example:

If you archive a Component, all related Variants and SKUs are archived automatically.

If you later try to unarchive a SKU while the Component remains archived, this will not be possible.

You must restore the parent first.

How to Archive Components

Step 1: Go to Components

  • Navigate to: Products → Components (via the left navigation bar)

Step 2: Select the Asset(s)

  • Select one or multiple Components, Variants, or SKUs.

  • The archive action becomes available once at least one row is selected.

Step 3: Click Archive

  • Click the Archive icon in the top action bar (next to the "Create Component" button).

  • Confirm the action.

If you are archiving a parent (Component or Variant), all child assets will automatically be archived as well.

How to Unarchive Components

Step 1: Open the Archive View

  • Navigate to: Products → Components

  • Click “Archive” in the top right corner of the overview page.

This will open the archived components list.

Step 2: Select the Asset(s) to Restore

  • Select one or multiple archived Components, Variants, or SKUs.

Step 3: Click Unarchive

  • Click the Unarchive icon in the top action bar.

If you are restoring a parent Component, you will see a confirmation modal similar to the following:

In this modal, you can choose:

  • Also unarchive variants and SKUs→ This restores the full hierarchy.

  • ⬜ Leave unchecked → Only the selected parent will be restored. Child assets remain archived.

Confirm by clicking Unarchive.

Important

  • Archiving does not delete data.

  • Archived assets are removed from active views but remain fully recoverable.

  • Children cannot exist in an active state if their parent is archived.

  • Always restore the hierarchy from the top down if needed.
